The COVID-19 crisis has been seriously affecting the global society in an unprecedented manner, and the negative impacts are still growing. The first priority now should be, of course, saving lives and mitigating the sudden economic downturn caused by stringent control measures. At the same time, it is important to recognize that the root cause of the pandemic is thought to lie in the increasingly complex and proximal interaction between humans and wildlife due to ecosystem destruction induced by climate change and development, as well as globalization. Therefore, in spite of the difficult situation we are facing, global efforts toward carbon neutrality and conservation of biodiversity should be maintained and further accelerated. We have a promising sign of rapid expansion of sustainable lifestyle including tele-working. Localization and decentralization will play a critical role. “Green Recovery” and “Transformative Changes” should be the keywords toward the post-COVID-19 era.
